Birmingham, Alabama – February 21, 2008 – Arthur J. Tipton, Ph.D., President, Brookwood Pharmaceuticals, has been chosen as a new member of the College of Fellows by the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). Tipton has been recognized for the development of biodegradable polymers and novel drug delivery systems. The induction ceremony is February 21, 2008.

Nicholas A. Peppas, Chair of the College of Fellows of AIMBE, said the new Fellows of AIMBE have been elected because of their “exceptional contributions to medical and biological engineering”. He also stated that election places Fellows among “the top two percent of the medical and biological engineering community comprising AIMBE”.

AIMBE was formed in 1991 to solve engineering science and practice issues in medical and biological engineering. Improving technologies, food quality and medical care throughout the world, promoting advancements, improving relations, promoting engineering and education and recognizing group and individual contributions to medical and biological engineering are AIMBE’s objectives.

Members of The College of Fellows include bioengineers in industry, government and academia. Distinguished contributions of research, practice and education are necessary to earn a nomination. There are 1,000 Fellows, predominantly from the United States.

Taylor Rhodes, Director of Administration and Development, AIMBE, said the new members have been elected to join “the most prestigious group of biological and medical engineers in the country”.
